I would have been much more impressed if I just wandered into that path naturally. Since it was a sharp reminder that I was gaming this games systems to trigger the sequence of events that I wanted. The fact that I had to look up a guide to figure out how to get the girl I wanted broke the immersion for me. So I looked up a guide on steam and tried again and finally got the girl I wanted. It turns out I made one wrong choice with another girl which barred me off from that path. But instead I got the ending with Shou again. On my second playthrough I decided I wanted to romance Yuuna now that I knew her better. Because of that I didn't end up romancing anyone in the end and got the ending with my new best bro Shou. If I spent some free time one day with Yuuna I spend some free time the next day with Mayu. My first time playing I tried to hang out with as many people as I could because I wanted to see what my options are. If you don't spend enough time with a girl by not hanging out with them once when your suppose to you can't date them. The way the game determents who you end up with is by how much time you spend with each girl. The game has a few branching paths but the choices don't really feel organic. I do have something of a criticism but I'm not sure I should share it because it's coming from a guy who doesn't play visual romance novels. I can't imagen anyone else voicing any of these characters now. By the way the english voice acting is pretty good. Probably because the devs got a lot of youtubers to help with this game and do some of the voice acting. There's references to celebrities and youtubers and a few straight up cameos. As well as pop coulter and anime culture references. The game has multiple jokes and 4th wall breaks. They even make a joke about that where they break the 4th wall if you get one of the games endings. Well actually the real title of best girl goes to the younger sister Nikki because she's my favorite character. But I guess that means that your character ends up getting with Kaori in the lore of ACE Academy anyway since she's the only one with her own separate game. Kaori After Story much shorter then ACE Academy so I consider it DLC. It's much shorter then ACE Academy and ties in with the events of that game if you romance Kaori. And I WILL fight you to death if you say otherwise! □īut there is a game that comes after this one that's called Kaori After Story. "Valerie") is a hot French foreign exchange student that always hits on and flirts with all the guys she meets just to mess with them.įor me the title of best girl goes to Yuuna. Yuuna - (Pronounced "you-na") is friendly, hardworking, and innocent somewhat to a fault. Mayu - (Pronounced "may-you") is the quiet, shy, introverted bookworm. Which means she starts out as a cold, distant, hotheaded person before gradually showing her warmer and friendlier side over time. Kaori - (Pronounced "cow-re" I keep calling her Keori and Kary for some reason) she's the tsundere character. His banter became so cringe to the point it became kind of adorable. At first he and that stupid nickname he gives you really annoyed me, but over time he grew on me. He's there to make you and your character look cool by comparison. He's energetic, goofy, awkward, and not very good with girls. You have your friend Shou - (Pronounced "Show" as in a TV show) who's your standard sidekick character. While also trying to uncover the secret of the GEAR you and your father built together before he died.Īs for the characters you have all the standard archetypes you can expect in a game like this. While attending classes and competing to see who can be the best GEAR pilot you meet and develop relationships with all the characters. The mechs in this universe are called GEARs and it takes place sometime in the "near" future (2049). You attend a school called ACE Academy for people looking to become professional mech pilots. You move from America with your little sister to live with your uncle in Japan after your parents die in an accident. You can also choose what attributes you have but it doesn't have any major effect on gameplay. You're a half Japanese half America guy whos first and last name you can choose at the start. I don't play visual novels very much but this was fun.
